Exciting New Plan for Clare Valley Tourism

A fresh new approach to strengthening the Clare Valley tourism industry has been launched. The region’s Destination Action Plan (DAP) 2012-15 was produced by the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) in partnership with Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North (RDAYMN) and regional tourism stakeholders.

The DAP highlights 20 actions intended to boost the Clare Valley’s appeal to visitors and help the region seize opportunities for tourism growth. These include the addition of new commercial tours or attractions, room upgrades and the development of a Clare Valley regional tourism brand.

Increasing the number of local events listed in the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse and filling gaps in RV-friendly facilities are among other priorities. RDAYMN chief executive Kelly-Anne Saffin said the DAP was a commitment to developing the tourism industry for the future.

“Preparing this plan has been a great chance for those focused on enhancing the Clare Valley tourism industry to discuss their goals and identify practical actions,” Ms Saffin said.

SATC chief executive Jane Jeffreys said the Clare Valley DAP would shape efforts to market and develop the region during the next three years.

“Input on this plan has come from every SATC unit, and each of its actions represents a commitment from the relevant part of the agency,” Ms Jeffreys said

“DAPs are practical, realistic lists of tasks that the SATC and regional stakeholders believe are achievable by the end of 2014.”

The action plans, which are being produced for South Australia’s 11 regions, will be progressively launched in the coming months. DAP stakeholder groups will meet every six months to track progress on the action list, and will add new items as goals are achieved.
