New Chair Appointed for SFRTA

Recently Mayor Sandra Wauchope was elected as the new Chairperson for the Southern Flinders Regional Tourism Authority (SFRTA).

Recently a new Chairperson for the Southern Flinders Regional Tourism Authority (SFRTA) was elected. The SFRTA is a joint collaboration between the Northern Areas Council, District Council of Mt Remarkable, Port Pirie Regional Council, Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North, South Australian Tourism Commission, National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Southern Flinders Tourism and Tastes Association.

Mayor of the District Council of Mount Remarkable Sandra Wauchope has been elected as the Chairperson of the SFRTA, and regarding her new position she said: “I am honoured to have been given the role. I will be proactive in helping developing tourism in the region, the benefits are broad and have a positive impact to all businesses in the Southern Flinders. There are a number of projects being undertaken by the SFRTA and I am very pleased to be involved”.

Some of these projects in which the SFRTA has been helping operators are: the Flinders Ranges National Landscape Experience Development Program; assistance in applying for various tourism industry grants; the distribution of a monthly eNewsletter keeping tourism operators informed of new developments and opportunities; the Eat Local culinary tourism campaign and the Southern Flinders Ranges Facebook and Twitter feeds.

These are great opportunities for tourism businesses in the Southern Flinders Ranges. These and many other projects are helping the Southern Flinders Ranges gain a greater identity as a unique tourism destination.

Due to the new opportunities becoming available and the latest developments, new tourism strategic plan is being developed by the group. The strategic plan will reinforce SFRTA’s focus on tourism product development in the region and sets clear objectives and strategies to reach such outcomes.

Cr. Sandra Wauchope will be working closely with the Tourism Development Manager Stephen Schwer and Tourism Projects Officer Anna Del Rio. Stephen Schwer said: “It’s great to have Sandra as our Chair, she is a positive thinker and is really enthusiastic about tourism in our region”.
