Golden North, Laura SA. Golden North is proudly South Australian made and owned for over 100 years. We are still producing ice cream at the same factory since 1923 in Laura for the whole of Australia. This position information covers one of our job roles with our team in Laura, South Australia. The Role: The primary role is to prepare & mix ingredients resulting in a base mix that meets the desired specifications for both quality and food safety. This involves working closely with others in a noisy (but within safe levels) environment and focuses on ensuring ingredients are properly calculated to form various flavours and mix Golden North will produce for customers. Daily and regular interaction with large vats, a keyway system that allows the direction of flow from vat to vat and manual handling up to 25kg bags of milk powder/ingredients into a hopper. Significant requirements within the role to calculate volumes and ingredient mixture amounts to ensure the ratios are correct. As food safety and hygiene requirements are extremely important the cook is also required to undertake a range of cleaning and hosing down of the working environment and sometimes climbing vats to inspect or provide ingredients. Cooks must also regularly verify their mixture products against a series of critical control point checks to ensure there is no contamination of product to consumers or to other areas of the factory There are limited occasions (most likely during summer) where cooks may be asked to prepare mix for the following day meaning working into the early morning hours is possible, subject to the terms of the Operations Agreement (eg: rest periods). Good maths skills, communication in a noisy environment and being physically fit (as occasions to climb vats may occur and lift ingredient bags) are essential to the role. The Person – essential skills • Reliable transport, ideally Class C Drivers Licence • Ability to work in a noisy environment and get along with others in a team based work area • Fit for working in an environment requiring occasional climbing of vats, manual handling of ingredient mix, moving around hoses, attaching/removing hoses from sockets • Proficient mathematic skills needed to calculate mixture rations, ingredient methods and vat volumes using calculators and checklists • Reliable work ethic and understanding nature of role may include some late nights • Ability to learn appropriate technology for integrating mixtures and calculating ratios • Proficient hand writing skills to complete forms, checklists etc that can be understood by others • Compliance with a range of essential food safety, hygiene, WHS etc requirements on site • Ability to plan and prepare ahead of time so that production of flavours will occur on time

Golden North operates Monday to Friday, span of hours being 5am-9pm and is subject to the (currently being FWC approved) Laura Operations (Enterprise) Agreement 2024

Minimum hours for the position is expected to be about 25-30 hours per week but up to 38 hours per week is likely during summer period, or more with overtime

Weekend work may be available during busy summer season and penalty/overtime rates will apply

Hourly rates are currently $34.97 Casual or $28.15 Part/Full Time but will increase at the end of September pending FWC approval of above agreement

Reliable own transport to Laura is mandatory

Medical pre employment assessment (either recently undertaken or to occur at Golden North expense) is required in most instances, sometimes after commencement
