Walara was formed in 2022/2023 as a result from the merger of Balaklava Millcourt Homes (BMH), Hamley Bridge Aged Care (HBAC) and Gilbert Valley Senior Citizens Homes (GVSCH). This consortium is the primary provider of residential aged care in the Lower North region of South Australia. For applicants not living in our community, our facilities are located 90km north of the Adelaide CBD, a quick and easy drive up the Northern Connector to the Lower North. Alternatively, applicants considering relocating, we offer an affordable inviting rural lifestyle, adjacent to the Barossa and Clare Valleys, Yorke Peninsula, and Southern Flinders. Great schools, safe friendly environment, medical and sporting facilities.
The three sites operate 127 residential aged care beds, and retirement living services in Balaklava and Gilbert Valley. Expansion into Home Care Services is planned for the near future. Walara is the major employer in the region directly employing over 195 staff with assets in excess of $43m and recurrent income of $19m. Walara is committed to the provision of local high quality aged care services, offering modern comfortable facilities and the growth of services which are critical to the welfare of older people, their families, and by extension the social and economic fabric of the region.
