The Role
The Environmental Test Operations Officer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing environmental testing operations for guided weapons, explosives, and ordnance systems. This role ensures compliance with Defence safety, quality, and technical standards while facilitating effective and efficient test outcomes.
The incumbent works closely with technical experts, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to support test readiness and continuous improvement within the environmental testing domain. You will:
- Develop and oversee environmental test plans and schedules, ensuring alignment with Defence priorities, test requirements, and operational needs.
- Coordinate resources, including personnel, equipment, and test facilities, to facilitate successful test execution.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of environmental testing activities, including temperature, vibration, humidity, and other specified tests.
- Ensure adherence to test protocols, safety procedures, and quality assurance measures throughout all testing phases.
- Provide guidance and training to junior staff and new team members to foster a culture of safety, technical proficiency, and continuous learning.
About our Team
The ETF conducts non-destructive test and evaluation trials on platforms explosives, munitions and other equipment across a range of environmental specialities. These specialities include climatic (simulated weather), radiographic (x-ray) and shock and vibration (shake and rattle). The ETF supports guided weapon and explosive ordnance test and evaluation activities. The ETF has capabilities enabling the climatic, non-destructive, vibration and mechanical testing of items, and other elements for artificial aging of Defence explosive ordnance. The JPEU engineering team also provide direct support to the ETF.
Employment at Port Wakefield also currently attracts a Special Defence Locality Assistance allowance of $309.85 per fortnight.

They will provide guidance and training to junior staff and new team members to foster a culture of safety, technical proficiency, and continuous learning. They will have excellent communication skills and be able to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Defence personnel, contractors, and industry partners, to achieve common testing objectives.
The right person for this role will show the flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of JPEU, to achieve business outcomes. In this role, the individual will provide support to a geographically dispersed team.
