Laura Primary School is a small rural school in the mid-north of South Australia 230 kilometres from Adelaide, catering for students from Birth to Year 6. Laura Primary School has a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, with Italian taught as a second language. The school has a proud sporting heritage and a rich local history. Laura B–6 has beautiful grounds surrounded by trees and spacious grassed areas.
Parent support is strong and the Laura students have a voice through class meetings and the Student Representative Council. The school has a strong and active Governing Council with community input highly valued by the school. Students are very active, participating in a wide range of SAPSASA sporting activities as well as local sport. Arts are also highly valued with students participating in the instrumental music program, Gladstone Art Festival, local theatre and local dance schools. Our staff continually undergo professional development to ensure their knowledge and skills remain up to date.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Preschool Support Officer to join our dynamic and engaging team.
The preschool curriculum support officer is accountable to the principal for assisting preschool teaching staff in the conduct of preschool programs by undertaking basic para-professional and preschool support activities which contributes to the achievement of educational outcomes of preschool students.
What you will do:
- Support the conduct of effective and appropriate programs to students experiencing learning difficulties by providing para-professional preschool assistance, including:
– utilising teaching resources appropriate to support program needs
– supporting special programs, in collaboration with teaching staff
– working with students on a 1:1 basis and with small groups
– referring student learning difficulties to teaching staff
– utilising teaching aids suitable for supporting educational concepts
– providing basic information on individual student learning
– working towards achieving a negotiated Education Plan that includes a number of health and welfare activities - Contribute to the care, general well-being and safety of all students by monitoring student behaviour and taking appropriate action in accordance with child protection requirements as described in the departmental policies and procedures.
Key Requirements & Special Conditions:
- Attained or working towards Diploma of Early Childhood (preferred) or Certificate III Early Childhood.
- Responding to Abuse and Neglect Training must be completed
- Employee will be required to be cleared through a Department of Human Services (DHS) Working With Children Check (WWCC) prior to confirmation of appointment and 5 years thereafter.
- Some out of hours work may be required. These instances will be through negotiation with the principal and will be covered in accordance with the existing industrial provisions relevant at the time
