The Northern Areas Council is approximately 200 kilometres north of Adelaide covering an area of 3070km2 . The Northern Mount Lofty Ranges and Southern Flinders Ranges reach into the district, making it a place of stunning landscapes that provide a backdrop to historic towns, vibrant communities and important farming enterprises.

Grazing, forestry operations, tourism and wind energy infrastructure are other  major industries within the district. Council’s close network of towns offer a range of shopping, recreation, employment, health and education services.

Reporting to the CEO and part of the Executive Leadership Team, this is broad, challenging  and critically important role interfaces closely with the workforce, Elected Members and externally with the community.

Assisted by a close knit and capable team, key responsibilities and objectives include:
• Providing leadership and direction to the Community & Growth team
• Promoting excellent customer service and a positive team culture across the organisation
• Developing strong working relationships with community groups across the region
• Ensuring the community groups have a voice at Council and a strong understanding of Council activities and services
• Working collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders to promote development, investment, tourism and jobs in the region.

Essential experience and key personal attributes will be:
• Exceptional leadership skills
• Highly developed strategic planning, budgeting and financial reporting capability
• The ability to effectively plan, organise and manage time and priorities
• Experience working with, and providing advice / reports to and supporting Elected Members, Boards and/or senior managers
• Demonstrated ability to achieve strategic goals and objectives
• A proven track record in developing and maintaining productive relationships with external stakeholders
• Experience working with communities to achieve compatible goals.
