District Council of Peterborough
The District Council of Peterborough is currently seeking a passionate and customer centric person with a solid understanding of the local tourism industry to join our Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre team.
The successful applicant will contribute to the overall success of the VIC and Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre through excellent customer service, enhancing the visitor experience through the sharing of accurate, inspiring, helpful and personalised information and advice, providing tourism and event support, having a continuous improvement mindset and promoting Peterborough as a tourism destination of choice.
The Senior Tourism Officer & Coordinator will also coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre and accredited VIC, manage the tourism websites and social media accounts, including creating and implementing digital marketing content, oversee the visitor guide updates, merchandising control and site room hires. The role also involves providing a monthly report to the Tourism Committee as well as suggestions and guidance in local tourism opportunities.

Qualifications &/or experience
- Significant experience in a customer service and/or tourism/visitor information environment.
- General computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel etc.
- Experience implementing digital marketing content.
- Cash handling experience and the ability to reconcile and account for monies received.
- Class C (Standard) Driver’s Licence.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Coordinate the efficient day-to-day operations of the VIC and Steamtown, including staff rostering and management, group bookings, room hire and site management.
- Deliver comprehensive visitor information services in an educated, enticing, accurate and non-prejudiced manner.
- Manage the tourism websites and social media profiles, including content.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of digital content, strategy and ensuring continual engagement and activity.
- Assist in overseeing the provision of timely and efficient services including bookings as we move to increase our online bookings and the use of technology in our visitor experiences.
- Provide tourism assistance to local operators and council management.
Position – Based on 38 hours per week, working across a 7-day spread, with actual days and times being worked in accordance with facility roster.
