About the role
What will I be doing?
We are looking for another awesome Speech Pathologist to join our fun and innovative multi-disciplinary team. The role includes:
- Availability of a mixed caseload, including paediatrics, school aged, adult and aged care.
- A range of clinical areas including speech, language, AAC, fluency, literacy, dysphagia and paediatric feeding. We support clinicians to work into their areas of interest, whether this be one or multiple areas.
- Offering service provision through 1:1 therapy, group therapy, and consultative services.
- Travelling throughout the Mid North region to provide outreach services.
- Encouragement to consider innovative service delivery. Our Speech Pathologists often attend school sports days, complete therapies in the hydrotherapy pool or paediatric gym, and are encouraged to think of new and interesting ways to support their clients.
Workload expectations
What will my first few weeks look like? How much work is expected of me?
- Your first week will include orientation to your team, our processes, and the building, along with online training completion.
- Your first clients will be seen alongside a Senior Speech Pathologist with the opportunity to shadow other clinicians also provided outside of your own clients.
- Ongoing workload is dependent upon the area in which you work. We understand that some areas of speech pathology are more time intensive than others with workload adjusted to account for this. A rough guide is:
- 1 client per day, shadowed by a more Senior Speech Pathologist, reaching 3-4 clients per day by the end of your first 3 months.
- Addition of new clients as tolerated to reach 4-5 per day by the end of your second 3 months
- Gradual build up to 5 clients per day by the end of your first year.
- Continue with 5 or more as per your desire beyond this.
- These ‘client’ hours are made up by, not just client contact time, but also reports, travel, meetings, and also some resource making time.
- We work hard to support clinicians rather than focus on KPIs.
Support
How can Thrive help me progress as a clinician and help me fit in?
- Multi-tiered formal supports:
- Access to ongoing and regular clinical supervision. Early career Speech Pathologists will receive 1 hour weekly supervision, with this being maintained for as long as needed.
- Access to ongoing and regular wellbeing/workload meetings. Early career Speech Pathologists will receive a 1 hour weekly meeting with their team leader to discuss all things that relate to their role and wellbeing, to assist in managing workload and enjoyment.
- Regular fortnightly professional development sessions with speech pathology team.
- Regular fortnightly professional development sessions with multi-disciplinary team specific to your area of work.
- Option to be partnered with a mentor of the same discipline, to assist with the transition process and any questions you may have.
- $1,500 contribution to professional development (full time salary)
- Registration for ‘Traffic Jam in My Brain’ sensory processing workshop training upon commencement.
- Up to $10,000/year external scholarships available to support PD attendance.
- Our current speech pathology team comprises of 8 speechies, with 3 Senior Speech Pathologists (10, 15, and 17 years of experience to share with you) – there is always someone around!
- Support from a team of amazing admin staff to assist with bookings, phone calls, and other administrative tasks to ensure you do less paperwork.
- Supportive and fun community, with lots of social and sporting events to meet others both within and outside of the organisation.
- Opportunity for project work and community development (e.g. work within schools or kindergartens to train/develop their staff and students).
- Support pursuing a particular area of interest of speech pathology practice.
Remuneration
What payment and entitlements will I receive?
- Optional $5,000 retention bonus paid over 2 instalments ($2,500 at commencement of 1st year, with $2,500 at commencement of 2nd year) to clinicians committed to staying with Thrive for 2 years.
- Excellent initial base salary of $75,000/year for new graduates. More experienced staff can expect a base salary up to $100,000/year.
- Once clinicians have established caseloads, the option to receive commission on top of your base salary is offered. This is the fairest way by which team members, over a range of disciplines and seeing a range of clients, can be remunerated. Essentially, you will be paid an above public health base salary, with the option of earning considerably more should you wish to. For example, a 2nd year Speech Pathologist seeing 5 clients per day would make approximately $100,000/year plus superannuation and leave entitlements.
- You will be paid superannuation at 11.5% on top of your base salary and commission.
- For full time employees, you will be paid 4 weeks of annual leave and 2 weeks of sick leave. For part time employees, you will be paid pro rata of the above.
- You will be paid parental leave in line with Fair Work SA guidelines, which is currently 22 weeks or 110 days for full time employees (part time pro rata). Additional parental leave can be negotiated prior to your commencement.
