About the opportunity

Port Pirie Regional Council is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual with a strong commitment to service to join our Tourism Team.

The Team Leader Tourism will provide excellence in customer service and promote the benefits of tourism products and opportunities within the region, playing a vital role in driving the Council’s Visitor Information Centre. This role involves coordinating the operations and resources of the Port Pirie Visitor Information Centre (VIC), ensuring information is organised and presented efficiently for quick responses to enquiries from the public, volunteers, and staff.

Responsibilities include collating visitor statistics, maintaining accreditation, overseeing retail merchandise and stock, and making recommendations to improve tourism offerings. The position will ensure maintenance of stock levels and undertake general administrative functions such as ordering office supplies, reconciling petty cash, and weekly banking.

Additionally, the Team Leader will maintain all social media platforms and specialised promotional materials, directories, and publications relevant to the VIC. The role also supports engagement activities, participates in tourism-related meetings, and provides administrative support to the Gallery and Cultural Arts Coordinator and Community Development Coordinator.

The position is a full-time role classified at Level 3 of the South Australian Municipal Salaried Officers Award and Associated Enterprise Agreement, with an immediate start desired.

About you

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in tourism are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with local and regional tourist attractions, local history, accommodation, events and community activities.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and computer skills, along with the ability to work well in a team.
  • Background in tourism or a related field, and experience working in an office environment.
  • Efficiency, high personal presentation, and a commitment to customer service.
