The Australian Province and the Sevenhill Cellars Board are looking to appoint an experienced wine industry person to lead the Sevenhill Cellars wine ministry located in the Clare Valley of South Australia.  This is a great opportunity for someone with outstanding leadership skills and strong business acumen to take this iconic wine operation into an exciting future as the 9 Year Strategic Plan continues to be refined and implemented.

SEVENHILL CELLARS: Located in a renowned wine region of Australia, Sevenhill Cellars is the only Jesuit winery in the world and is steeped in history with an outstanding tourism reputation. It produces sacramental wine and table wines for general consumption throughout Australia and selected export markets. It is an integrated operation that not only manages a variety of vineyards but also produces a range of market driven, award winning wines that are distributed across Australia including through the on-site cellar door.

THE AUSTRALIAN PROVINCE: Founded by St Ignatius Loyola more than 480 years ago, the Society of Jesus (also known as the Jesuits) is an international religious order within the Catholic Church. The Jesuit presence in Australia dates back to 1848 and the Australian Province of the Society of Jesus now comprises more than 90 Jesuits. They work in over 30 ministries in companionship with some 1,800 women and men who share the Ignatian vision of the service of faith and the promotion of justice.

THE ROLE: The General Manager is expected to act as an enabling resource, assisting informed decision-making by the Board of Sevenhill and furthermore to assist the Board in ensuring good governance of Sevenhill Cellars. The General Manager is required to have strong commercial business acumen in particular as it relates to the wine industry, extensive sales experience, a collaborative and engaging mindset and high-quality personal engagement skills.


• Professionally managing Sevenhill Cellars in accordance with the directions of the Sevenhill Cellars Board, all statutory /legal requirements and in pursuit of the Jesuit Mission for Sevenhill.

• Implementation and ongoing review of the nine-year strategic plan to ensure the viability and sustainability of Sevenhill Cellars.

• Monitoring and managing the financial performance, risk management and compliance of the operation, ensuring compliance to WHS, Food Safety, Environment and close attention to cash flow including sales revenue streams and cost controls.

• Protecting and enhancing the reputation of the Society of Jesus by building on the heritage and history of the Jesuits at Sevenhill.

• Developing strategic initiatives and other commercial arrangements with key stakeholders including the Jesuit network and key distribution channels, both nationally and internationally.

• Reporting to the Board in a timely and accurate way.

• Leading the Management Team and overseeing management of the vineyard, winery, cellar door, bottling, warehouse distribution and sales operations.
