Objectives of the role:

Responsible to the Maintenance Manager this role is to provide the maintenance of the equipment, buildings and grounds of Barunga Village Inc accordance with quality assurance standards and the policies and procedures of Barunga Village Inc.

Responsibilities of the role:

Provide the highest level of maintenance of the equipment, buildings and grounds of Barunga Village (including Barunga Homes, Barunga by the Sea, Barunga Cottages and Barunga Community Care clients on request) in accordance with quality assurance standards and the policies and procedures of Barunga Village by:

 

  • being responsible for the preventative maintenance program for all plant, equipment, fixtures, buildings and fire detection systems,
  • performing minor repairs as directed and completion of maintenance requests,
  • appropriate disposal of rubbish,
  • maintain car parks, verandah areas, gardens and grounds in a safe, clean and aesthetic condition,
  • assisting staff with heavy lifting as required
  • performing local courier duties such as collection of stores, changeover of medical gases, transfer of materials to associated businesses for repair etc
  • communicating effectively and document relevant information,
  • working to maintain a physical and psychosocial environment that ensures the privacy, dignity, individuality and rights of residents,
  • responding effectively to unexpected situations within own level of skill and competence.

It is the responsibility of the employee to be familiar with the specific duties for each shift as per task sheets.

 

Work, health and safety:

Adhere to defined work health and safety and welfare policies and procedures related to the work being undertaken in order to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace.

Reporting of any possible hazards in the workplace.

Reporting of any ‘near misses’ and participation in Incident/Accident investigations as necessary.

Comply with all policies and procedures required of employees.

Participate in all mandatory training programs such as Fire Education and Manual Handling education as directed.

Essential Qualifications and experience:

Experience in general maintenance duties such as gardening, repairs, minor building works and preventative maintenance.

 

Desirable qualifications and experience:

Previous Experience in an Aged Care Facility or similar environment is desirable.

Qualifications in the building, plumbing or electrical trade.

 

Core competencies:

Demonstrated competence in maintenance delivery and a knowledge base for safe practice.

Keen interest in gardening.

Possess sound interpersonal skills and written / verbal communication skills.

Must attend all training classes as required and demonstrate continuous improvement.

Ability to work as an effective team member and maintain confidentiality.

Need to be motivated and demonstrate respect, approachability and consistency.

Ability to act autonomously and function effectively under pressure.

A strong commitment to working with older people or people with disability.

Recognise and work within the limits of own abilities and qualifications.

Willingness to travel to clients’ homes.

Physical fitness appropriate for duties, which involve prolonged and significant activity including lifting, walking, bending, climbing and stretching.

 

Conditions:

  • Provide a NDIS worker screening clearance that is dated not more than five years old to enable the assessment of whether the employe is suitable to provide care under the Aged Care Act.
  • Comply with having annual flu vaccination and being fully immunised against COVID-19.
  • Must sign a statutory declaration to identify serious criminal activity committed outside of Australia.
  • Not be included in the Aged Care Banning Orders Register.
  • Must comply with Barunga Village’s Code of Conduct.

Special conditions:

Must hold a current SA Driver’s Licence.

Must be available to go on the on-call roster over seven (7) days.

Some out of hour’s duties may be required from time to time.
