As part of the Executive Services Team, you will have wide reach across the organisation, along with extensive interaction with external media outlets.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure the prompt and accurate dissemination of information to the community and key stakeholders using a range of mediums.
  • Develop, implement and review Council’s Communication and Engagement Strategy.
  • Develop and deliver effective communication projects that drive improved customer experience.
  • Proactively develop content for application across multiple channels, including website, social media and external media to drive awareness of Council activities.
  • Assist with the ongoing development of Council’s website and social media accounts.
  • Prepare media briefs for key personnel to ensure consistency of message and alignment with organisational goals, values, vision and mission.
  • Create strategic cross-channel content promoting Council programs and services, and fulfilling Council’s notification requirements, via engaging and professional videos (filming and editing).
  • Engage with Council teams using film and photography, and attend Council events and programs to capture content and post to social media in real time.
  • Assist with planning, coordination and promotion of Council launches, public receptions and events in conjunction with key stakeholders, relevant internal committees and the external community.
  • Identify opportunities and implement solutions to improve communications capability and provide timely communications advice to relevant stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including media outlets, Government agencies, business/ industry organisations, and community groups.
  • Collaborate with community and staff on Council sponsored events.
  • Develop and deliver communications programs for contentious or sensitive public issues, including conducting public meetings and forums using a wide range of engagement tools.
  • Liaise with technical staff to translate complex/technical information into accessible public information.

Ideally you will hold qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field, combined with relevant experience in a similar role.  Local Government experience desirable but not essential.

A passionate and proactive approach, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, high level computer literacy and a commitment to working as part of a team will be essential.
