ABC

  • Be a part of Australia’s independent national broadcaster
  • Contract Vacancy for Approximately 6 Months
  • Pursue stories you’re passionate about
  • Port Pirie Location

About the Role

From the vines of the Barossa to the opal fields of Coober Pedy, the North and West of South Australia is one of the largest and most diverse regions served by a regional ABC bureau.

Reporting to the Editor, News Reporters are vital in bringing the characters and stories of these communities to local and national audiences. The ways to tell these stories are ever-evolving; it could be a live cross into TV with overlay you filmed yourself, an online story on Australia’s most trusted news website, a carefully crafted radio package on PM, a short piece in a radio news bulletin you’re presenting live or even an Instagram story.

The size of the team means you have support to pursue stories you’re passionate about, but also ample opportunity to step up and take a lead on breaking stories in the area – of which there are plenty!

About You

A proven experience of breaking original news stories and making strong contacts are essential in this role. Knowledge of our systems, processes and equipment will also be an advantage, but there are opportunities for training as required.

You’ll also have:

  • Passion for creating and consuming news
  • Sharp editorial judgement and an analytical mind
  • Proven experience in live broadcast
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • A current and valid drivers license
