clare valley breathe it in
Regional Development Australia (RDA) Yorke and Mid North coordinate industry-based tourism initiatives for the region. With funding support from the South Australian Tourism Commission and local councils, we employ a regional tourism manager.
The Clare Valley Tourism Region encompasses the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council, Regional Council of Goyder, Wakefield Regional Council and Adelaide Plains Council, and can be broken into three distinct regions.
WINE REGION
The valley that gives the region its name – as well as its most famous export – runs just 30 kilometres from Auburn in the south to Armagh in the north. A convenient hour and a half drive from Adelaide, the region is compact and beautiful.
PIONEER COUNTRY
The region extends from the wheat country of Tarlee and Eudunda, 130 kilometres north into the wide, direr expanses of the Mid-North culminating in Terowie. Expect dramatic landscapes, surprising stories and the remarkable town of Burra, Australia’s earliest, largest and best-reserved 19th-century mining town.
GULF + PLAINS
From the food bowl of Adelaide to the gulf waters of Port Wakefield to the nation’s most accessible pink salt lake – the Gulf + Plains Country is a surprise package waiting to be explored. The region runs 120 kilometres north from Two Wells to Brinkworth.
