Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North’s innovative flagship Heavy Industry Multi Skills program provides tailored solutions to address barriers to employment for local jobseekers. The unique partnership between prominent employers representing the mining, manufacturing, construction and engineering industries offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to a simulated industry environment, providing necessary accredited and non-accredited training and mentoring supports required for successful workforce transitions
The program will be delivered in Port Pirie and provide job seekers with a diverse range of skills, experience and support across a range of trade and heavy industry sectors, to ensure the region has a pool of work-ready people to meet the current and future workforce needs of these sectors. Job seekers who successfully complete the course will have the skills required to commence entry-level positions including labourers, operators, apprenticeships, traineeships and trades assistants.
Who can apply?
Job seekers, 16 years of age and older living in Port Pirie, Southern Flinders, Mid North or Yorke Peninsula who are looking to gain employment in the heavy industry sectors.

What does the course offer?
This unique program gives you the opportunity to complete the below accredited training courses:
Cert 2 in Resources and Infrastructure – RII20120
- Communicate in the workplace
- Conduct local risk control
- Identify and assess environmental and heritage concerns
- Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
- Enter and work in confined spaces
- Isolate and access plant
- Licence to operate a forklift truck
- Operate a forklift
- Work safely at heights
Additional Units of Study
- CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry – White Card
- HLTAID011 – Provide First aid
- HLTAID009 – CPR
In conjunction with daily safety huddle meetings, tailored classroom literacy and numeracy supports, soft skills and personal development workshops, drug and alcohol awareness, resume & interview preparation and industry site visits.
Commencing from Monday the 3rd of August, the program will be delivered 4 days per week over 10 weeks 9am – 4:30pm at the Port Pirie Tafe Campus, Mary Elie Street.
Student Fees
For successful applicants, there will be a fee of $660.
This fee covers all training costs and full personal protective clothing and equipment.
For applicants registered with an Employment Services Provider, this fee may be covered by your provider with prior approval.
Scholarships may be available thanks to Hazell Bros and Zancott Recruitment.
