This program will provide you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a positive difference in your community, whether you are wanting to take on a new leadership role or building your skills to improve the community you are part of.

2. Governance and Financial Literacy

  • Core principles of good governance
    • Roles and responsibilities of boards and committees
    • Risk management
  • Reading, interpreting and using financial information

 

3. Effective Decision Making

  • Critical thinking
  • Innovative thinking
  • Strategic vs operational decision making
  • Effective decision making
    • Objectives, constraints, optimal vs best and decision making under pressure

 

4. Working with Stakeholders and Managing Conflict

  • Types of stakeholders
    • Using the IAP2 spectrum of public participation
    • Working with different stakeholders
    • Working with different personalities
    • Conflict management

Course Eligibility

  • Over 18 years of age
  • Reside in the Yorke and Mid North (YMN) region
  • Able to commit to four full day sessions
  • Currently involved or aim to be involved in a local community group
