Defence Industry Readiness Support

Due to the ever-present threat of future drought, the need for regional businesses to explore opportunities around diversifying into other industries is becoming essential, with defence offering varied and sustained opportunities many may not have considered.

This program is jointly funded by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and the Government of South Australia.

The Defence Industry Readiness Support program is designed to help regional businesses take steps to become ready to participate in defence industry supply chains and work packages. Whilst many local businesses already have the skills and resources actively sought by the defence industry, these firms often encounter blockages with requirements specific to supplying to the defence sector. This program offers information, expertise and access to limited financial assistance to help businesses build towards meeting these requirements and pursuing real opportunities in the industry.

Expressions of interest for financial support will be assessed on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are available until funds are full allocated or until COB Friday, 4 December 2026 – whichever comes first.

Businesses can enquire about support for a wide range of readiness activities, including (but not limited to):

  • Contribution towards an Industry Capability Network (ICN) subscriptions
  • Quality management system review and guidance
  • Security vetting
  • Cyber security audit (entry level)
  • Workforce skills development / accreditation / clearance
  • Equipment or technology upgrades
  • Procurement support (e.g. tendering)
  • Marketing (e.g. quad chart preparation, pitching your business training)
