Three innovative local businesses are exploring new opportunities in the circular economy, thanks to a partnership between Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North and Green Industries SA.
The Yorke and Mid North Circular Economy Initiative Development Program marks an important milestone in the region’s transition toward a more circular economy. It aims to help businesses identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve resource recovery and create new value from materials that may otherwise be lost.
Following a well-attended information session in Port Pirie that revealed strong appetite for circular economy opportunities across the region, three businesses were selected to receive tailored one-on-one support. Each participating business engaged in a series of workshops and site visits, through which a personalised action plan was developed to reflect their unique goals. These action plans are designed to help embed circular principles into everyday business operations, while delivering environmental benefits and business cost savings.
CLM Quarries (Warnertown), Kelly Tillage (Booleroo Centre) and Magnetite Mines (via Peterborough) have participated in the program and will receive ongoing support from RDA Yorke and Mid North throughout their implementation.
“It has been a great process and very well directed and driven.” – Kelly Tillage
Following the success and positive feedback for Stage One of the project, Green Industries SA have agreed to support a second round of the project. Stage Two will be open to a wide range of industries, focusing on retail, hospitality, agriculture, fisheries, and tourism operations.
An information session will be held in Wallaroo on Tuesday 16 June from 5:30pm at the Wallaroo Sailing Club, Heritage Drive and in Clare on Wednesday 24 June from 5:30pm at Clare Bowling Club, 2 Pioneer Drive. Finger food and drinks will be provided.
All businesses from across the Yorke and Mid North region are welcome to attend. Targeted information on the principles and applications of circular economy will be shared, and businesses will be provided with the opportunity to express their interest in receiving tailored one-on-one support delivered through Stage Two of the project.
