Local Procurement for Renewable Projects

BACKGROUND

RDA Yorke and Mid North is working with renewable energy projects through two streams of local procurement activity. We have developed a secure online registration platform where contractors and workforce can upload their information once (and update as needed), which can be provided to proponents, procurement and recruitment teams as required.

EXPRESSING YOUR INTEREST

Carmody’s Hill

In May 2025, RDA Yorke and Mid North conducted an information session for the Carmody’s Hill proposed wind farm to update local
people and businesses regarding future work opportunities.

The Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm Project is located approximately 7 kilometres East of the town of Georgetown in the Mid North region of South Australia.

Georgetown Hills Renewable Energy Pty Ltd was set up to develop the Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm Project and is co-developed by Aula Energy and Renewable Project Services. Click here for an overview of the project.

DT Infrastructure is the Balance of Plant (BOP) contractor and this presentation outlines the scope of work for the project.

Aula Energy has a register for contractors and workers who are interested in working for the Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm in Georgetown.

Barn Hill

In July 2025, RDA Yorke and Mid North conducted an information session for the Barn Hill proposed wind farm to update local people and businesses regarding future work opportunities.

AGL’s Barn Hill Project is located 4.5 km to the south-west of the township of Redhill, in the Mid North of South Australia. If progressed to construction, the wind farm of approximately 300MW will be located across the hilltops between the Snowtown Wind Farm and the Clements Gap Wind Farm. The Project consists of up to 50 turbines and a new 275 kilovolt (kV) transmission line, and is expected to create up to 200 jobs at peak construction.  A 270 MW, 4 hour grid-scale battery will also be considered as part of the project at a later stage.

Hallett BESS

EnergyAustralia is planning to develop the Hallett Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) alongside its Hallett gas-fired power station, in Canowie, 210km north of Adelaide.

This grid-scale battery would have an initial storage capacity of 50MW and discharge capacity of up to 200MWh.  It will be able to power up to 81,000 homes and small businesses for four hours.  There are plans to triple its capacity to 150MW in a future second stage.

Goyder Battery

Neoen’s Goyder Battery project will commence construction activities in the coming months at Bundey, south of Burra.

This grid-scale battery will have a storage capacity of 226 MW / 866 MWh. Developing the battery adjacent to ElectraNet’s Bundey Substation means the project will use the existing transmission infrastructure inconnecting to the electricity grid and provide greater reliability in energy markets.

Aberdeen Oval Workers Accommodation

The Regional Council of Goyder, with Neoen Australia, is planning for temporary workers accommodation at the former Aberdeen Football Oval, Burra. The accommodation will support construction of the Goyder North Wind Farm from 2026 and is proposed for up to five years, helping reduce pressure on local housing. Infrastructure developed on the site (e.g. roads, water, electricity, wastewater and stormwater management) could be used in the future for a caravan park, in line with long-term community planning.
