Circular Economy Initiative Development Program

Circular economy has gained widespread attention in recent years as part of the industry moves from the traditional “take, make, dispose” approach towards designing out waste, keeping materials in use for longer, and regenerating natural systems.  For the Yorke and Mid North region, circular economy is an opportunity to create new businesses, diversify the economy and generate jobs while protecting the environment.

RDA Yorke and Mid North have received a Lead Educate Assist Promote (LEAP) grant from Green Industries SA to fund the Circular Economy Initiative Development Program which will be delivered in two parts. The first stage involves an introduction to the circular economy and local opportunities to businesses and organisations across the Port Pirie region and broader Yorke and Mid North through workshops, information sharing, and the preparation of Expressions of Interest to participate in a more targeted development phase. The second stage will support selected businesses through a facilitated investigation of circular economy projects.

The program will focus particularly on manufacturing, engineering, and industry services businesses in the Yorke and Mid North Region. All businesses seeking to participate or invest in circular economy models are welcome. A strong focus will be placed on the recycling and/or reuse of end-of-life renewable infrastructure (e.g. solar panels, wind turbines). However, the program is open to a wide range of possibilities.
